While Tying To The Bars Will Prevent Forward And Backwards Motion, There Is No Way To Tie Up To Prevent Side To Side Motion. You Can See This If You Look Carefully At The Picture. If You Tie Around The Location Where The Cross Beams Attach To The Roof Their Triangular Shape Means That That The Rope Will Just Slide Up Onto The Cross Beam Allowing Tied On Cargo To Slide Sideways Off Of The Car. <div Style="padding-top: 10px; But I Took It For A 12hr Drive With A Cargo Box On Top And Looks Fantastic Still. This rack is worthless. The metal that slides into the bar and is attached by a single screw is pot metal. Mine broke and now does nothing but rattle. I'm currently looking for an aftermarket product that is made from steel. I also, agree it would be much better with some kind of tie down to kep you items from sliding left and right.

The OEM roof rack from Honda is basically useless without additional accessories (specifically if you want to tie items directly to the rack). While tying to the bars will prevent forward and backwards motion, there is no way to tie up to prevent side to side motion. You can see this if you look carefully at the picture. If you tie around the location where the cross beams attach to the roof their triangular shape means that that the rope will just slide up onto the cross beam allowing tied on cargo to slide sideways off of the car.

I like this roof rack a lot however, it's not the oem version you see pictured, though it is very similar. it's about 2 inches taller than the OEM version and made from what looks to be Strong ABS plastic.
