Tent Trailer 4 - Bike Carrier (Automotive) When we decided to take 5 bikes to Yosemite so the whole family could ride at the same time, I had no clue how we were going to do it. Then I found these racks! They are amazing. (I bought the extender pack that allows for two more bikes to be carried, for a grand total of 6 bikes if needed.) These racks are easy to install, they are secure, they fit far enough back on the trailer that they don't inhibit turning radious IN THE LEAST, and are spectabular in every way. I don't have enough good words to say about them. Whoever invented this rack system for tent trailers is a genious. We went on some pretty bumpy roads and the bikes stayed exactly where we put them. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Pro Rac Systems Inc. Tent Trailer 4 - Bike Carrier (Automotive) WE ENDED UP RETURNING THE RACK AFTER IT'S FIRST USE BECAUSE WE COULDN'T JUSTIFY SPENDING NEARLY $400.00 ON A PRODUCT THAT SOLVED ONE PROBLEM BUT CREATED SEVERAL OTHERS. I have to say that this product is very well made and it seemed like a slick way to mount your bikes to your pop-up. The trouble began when I found that the back bike wheels slide ALL OVER THE PLACE. So to remedy this they supply many useless webbing straps with flimsy plastic pull trough buckles. These straps are not pictured in the photo advertisement, for good reason because if you saw the amount of straps necessary you would realize the MAJOR hassle this strapping job is and you'd NEVER pay, nearly, $400 for this rack. Luckily I work in a strap intensive industry--I'll leave that to your imagination--and therefore have lots of the best straps money can buy (and trust me they are nothing like the cheap ones supplied by pro-rac). So after using about 7 INDUSTRIAL straps we were on our way. Of course this... Tent Trailer 4 - Bike Carrier (Automotive) What others here have said:it is well made, easy to install, no drilling into your camper, works great. All true, It's a great bike rack. My additional observations and suggestions after 5000 miles with 4 bikes on. 1. No observable change in gas mileage (I pay attention to that while towing).... perhaps because the bikes are low enough they are slip streaming behind my tow vehicle. Bikes are more protected from wind. 2. Straps: They vibrated in the wind like crazy until I put a single twist on them.... all was well after that. Also be very careful where you put the straps on the bikes. The directions say around seat post. One of our bikes however had a brake cable ferring in that spot and I put the strap around that..... it started to cut the strap. I found a different way. Also... follow the directions about tying down loose ends of straps.....if they flap they will begin to unravel. At the end of my trip all the straps were... Read more |
